Free and reduced price school meals are provided by the National School Lunch Program. This federally assisted meal program is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, low‐cost or free meals to students in over 101,000 public and non‐profit private schools and residential childcare programs. In 2008, the NSLP provided over 30.5 million children with meals each school day.
